ELENA ZAYCHENKO

Elena Zaychenko is an extraordinary ceramic artist from Moscow, Russia. As a previously aspiring physics engineer, Elena was drawn to the endless opportunities that came with ceramics. Located in Moscow, Elena works with intricate designs of coils and various aspects of nature. Zaychenko’s work is heavily inspired by her favorite artist, Claude Monet. Each of Elena’s works of art is easily characterized as airy, natural, and delicate. With such intricate details comes the necessity for patience. Zaychenko weaves fine slabs of clay together and decorates her structures with equally thin petals to create dainty flowers. Despite their delicate appearance, these pieces of art are fired at extremely high temperatures, making them very durable. Elena is always up for a challenge and has designed everything from lighting fixtures to napkin holders. Overall, Elena Zaychenko is a very accomplished artist, whose unique style serves as an inspiration to others.

While searching for a ceramic artist, I was very drawn to the natural elements present in Elena's artwork: which bore many similarities to my developing style. In order to best portray aspects of Zaychenko's art, I pushed myself to new limits by working with thin slabs to create the petals and ladybugs.

"‘I wanted to try things out and to show that the ceramics can be airy, gentle and joyful, with some thin realistic flowers and lacy patterns"
